Breaking down the walls of Jericho.
When I watch a movie, I frequently will look at my
IMDB app on my phone to look at different specs about movies. I don’t believe I
have ever heard anything about It Happened One Night, so before we started
watching it I clicked on my app to see the movie’s rating. It had an 8.3 movie
review rating and you had mentioned before it started he was awarded 5 Academy
Awards for it. It was on IMDB 250 great
movies. Turns out the movie was hilarious and I text my boyfriend immediately
afterwards telling him we needed to watch it.
First off, the movie did not need special effects to
make it good. It didn’t matter that the movie was in black and white and most
of the set was in different modes of transportation. The characters in the film
made it great. Even though neither one of the star actors wanted to be involved
in this film, their attitude and sarcasm is what got the audience to laugh. I
really think the focus was on the characters not necessarily the destinations. We
never knew where they were.
I really enjoyed the scene on the bus where the band
sat at the back playing a tune. Then when the sailor joined in and sang the
next verse, it was hilarious. I kept thinking that the young boy was going to
end up being a thief. There were so many characters in the film from the first
bus driver to the editor to the father to the King. And they all worked very
well into making this film a hit.
It Happened One Night reminded me of Roman Holiday
with Audrey Hepburn or Leap Year with Amy Adams. The girl is on her way to meet
her boyfriend and she meets a stranger and falls in love, or meets a journalist
who is interested in writing a story about the heiress. These are all great
movies.
